On a Golden
Boy Promotions card Jessica
Mohs defeated
Karen
Martin with a shutout of 40-33 on all judges score cards.
According to news sources, Martin was dropped three times in the
first round. Mohs had just fought on March 22, where she
KO'd her opponent, Rita
Valentini in the first round. Jeff
Evans, a Californian staff writer said, "In a lively
women's featherweight bout, Jessica Mohs of Phoenix knocked down
Karen Martin of Los Angeles three times in the first round and went
on to a unanimous four-round decision. Martin (5-2), who described
her style as hard-charging and aggressive, came racing out of her
corner at the start of the bout and landed a good shot to Mohs'
head. But Mohs (5-3) countered with a solid right to the face that
decked Martin for the first time before the fight was 15 seconds
old. Another right to the jaw dropped Martin again, and another
right put Martin down for the third time. All three knockdowns
occurred before the midway point of the two-minute round. At that
point, Martin appeared wobbly. But she survived the round, then
spent the next round side-stepping around the ring to stay away from
Mohs, who was not quick enough to cut her off. " Mohs improved her record
to 5-3-0 (1KO), and Martin is now 5-2-0 (4KO).
