In the main event, Holly Holm, 140, (9-1-2, 3KO),
stopped last-minute opponent,
Lisa Lewis, 136, in the ninth round. Holm successfully defended
her IBA Jr. Welterweight title. According to a ringside
observer, they reported the following: Lewis refused to come out of
her corner for the 9th round despite her earlier rounds of relentless
pressure. Holly had the footwork and ability to pull off fighting going
backwards. Not too many fighters can fight moving backward. In the
first round, Holm
uses her long right jabs and a good right hooks to the body to win the first
round. Round two:
It went to the inside and both ladies went to work but it was Holly who
stayed busier and used right angles to confuse Lewis.
In round three, Lisa
used constant pressure to push Holly back and using the center of the ring
but Holm kept her at bay again with long punches while moving backward was
able to execute combos at will - it's 3 rounds to 0 for Holm.
Round four:
More combos on the inside
and Lisa still keeps on the forward aggressive pressure, but Holly
lands clean punches and takes another round.
Round five:
Holm keeps her at bay all on the outside.
Round six:
Big lefts and big right hooks all to be received by Lisa's head.
Round Seven:
The relentless Lewis returns to the center of the ring but to no avail she
is haunted by Holm combinations again and several hard straight lefts.
Round eight:
Holly goes back to work with long jabs and keeps punishing Lewis so much so
that her she fails to come out of the corner for the 9th round.
Also, on the undercard,
Jody
Esquibel, 113, TKO'd Doreen Hilton, 115, in the second round.

A return to once- familiar surroundings proved to be the order of the day
for Missy Fiorentino and
Jamie Clampitt. The Rhode Island based boxers upped their win
totals with solid efforts over their opponents during the CES promoted
“Prime Time Fight” card. Fiorentino, the # 4 ranked Jr. Lightweight (WBAN)
scored a unanimous (40-36, 40-36, 40-36) decision over rock-solid
Lisa Lewis of Fresno, California in an
animated four-rounder. Clampitt, the Light welterweight, ranked # 7 by
WBAN, was back inside the ropes after a six-month absence, taking out an
overmatched Leora Jackson late in the
third of six scheduled rounds. Clampitt’s most recent result was a draw
with Eliza Olson. The two faced off last December for the vacant IWBF
Light Welterweight title. Fiorentino
and Lewis got busy from the outset. The Rhode Island Deputy Marshall, whose
day-to-day responsibilities include the transportation of inmates to court,
fired the first salvo with a straight left hand that scored. But Lewis
nearly matched “The Fury” with an aggressive stance of her own, at the start
of the second round. Both fighters went up the middle, rarely wavering from
center ring. With less than ten seconds remaining in the round, Fiorentino
who weighted in at 126 lbs. stung Lewis with an overhand left.
Clampitt’s “thing” and
Jackson’s fate collided with a thud at 1:44 of the third round when the
former Canadian amateur unleashed a flurry of punches that led to Jackson
falling back onto the ropes and staggering, eventually landing near her
corner. “The left hook was landing then she started moving the other way,
then the right hand was working, so I was just trying to mix it up and I
knew I had her hurt, and I just wanted to take her out.” The card was
dedicated to veteran Providence Police detective James Allen, who was killed
in the line of duty in April.

Carina Moreno, 111, of Watsonville, California, remained
undefeated, now 4-0-0 (2 KO) when she won by a six-round
unanimous decision over last-minute opponent, 23-year old
Stephanie
Dobbs, 110, of Moore, Oklahoma. In the Monterey
Herald, staff writer Dennis Taylor reported that it was a good
test for Moreno, as this was her first six-rounder fighting as
a pro. Taylor wrote, "Almost as satisfying as the
victory Saturday night was the fact that Watsonville's Carina
Moreno escaped her first-ever six-round fight with an unmarked
face -- imperative for a pro boxer who has another fight
scheduled just three weeks down the road." Taylor said that
Moreno survived a physical, occasionally rambunctious battle
with a "Warrior" named Stephanie Dobbs, winning with a
unanimous decision (60-53 all score cards. "Moreno stuck
her opponent repeatedly with a long left jab, peppered her
with effective combinations, and was given credit for a
knockdown just before the second-round bell."

Jessica Rakoczy, 135, won a 10-round unanimous decision over
Lisa “Lil Warrior” Lewis and is now the new IBA
Lightweight World Champion. Steve Cummings of InTheCorner.net
reported the following: “Jessica Rakoczy returned to the ring
Thursday night after a 13-month layoff that included an auto
accident that left her unable to fight. If there were any
questions about how Jessica would be able to recover from the
layoff and injury, there aren’t anymore. Rakoczy put on a
dazzling display of skills against Lisa Lewis at The Palace
Indian Gaming Center in
Lemoore, CA to notch a
unanimous 10-round decision and win the IBA lightweight
championship. The Rakoczy-Lewis matchup was the main event of
the Hard Road To Glory show that also saw a victory by rising
junior welterweight star Oscar Diaz in the co-main event.
George Chung’s American Champion Sports and The Palace
promoted the seven-bout show. Rakoczy (13-1) finally made her
ring return after suffering her first loss to Jenifer Alcorn
in January of 2003 and came out of her corner with both guns
blazing. A powerful right hand in the early going knocked
Lewis (6-8) sideways before she landed on the canvas. Lewis
got up from her first professional knockdown but Rakoczy was
back to the attack immediately. The second round saw Jessica
tag Lisa with a powerful right hand that hurt the
Fresno
fighter. As the round wore on, however, Lewis started to find
her way inside the long arms of Rakoczy to at least stem the
tide of powerful shots that had been steady since the opening
bell. For the duration of the fight, Lewis worked diligently
to get inside while Rakoczy did her level best to keep her
opponent on the end of her long-range power shots. While Lewis
was able to close the gap better as the fight wore on,
Rakoczy’s skills were just too sharp and allowed the Las Vegas
fighter to dictate the action until the final bell. Scores
were 99-90, 100-89 and 100-89, all for Jessica Rakoczy.”
In one of the first bouts of the evening the card featured an
undercard four-rounder between Tania Gomez vs.
Nicole Beard. Cummings reported the following, “In the
first female bout of the evening, lightweights Tania Gomez and
Nicole Beard locked horns in an entertaining four-round battle
with Gomez earning a unanimous decision. The southpaw Gomez
landed consistently with her power shots throughout and had
Beard’s nose bleeding steadily over the last two rounds. Beard
came out strong at the opening bell, throwing combinations as
she pressed her opponent. Tania, who had IFBA featherweight
champion Kelsey Jeffries working her corner, used movement to
avoid the rush and then began to work her way in with her own
attack. A chopping left hand repeatedly found the mark as
Gomez controlled the fight. Official scores were 39-37, 40-36,
39-37, all for Gomez.” Gomez is now 3-1-0, and Beard is 1-8.
Also in attendance was Mia “The Knockout” St. John.
St. John challenged Rakoczy for the IBA belt, and it looks like they

April 18,
2003 - The Palace, Lemoore, CA
In front of a packed audience, at the
Palace
Indian
Gaming
Center,
in Lemoore, California, had a night of women’s boxing, mixed in
with a heavyweight contender Michael Grant, who fought Gilbert
Martinez. The first fight of the night was between
Isra “The
Raging Beauty” Girgrah, 128, and
Laura Serrano, 124. The two
fought in a toe-to-toe battle that ended in a controversial
eight-round split decision for Girgrah. The
boxing fans met the decision with a loud sound of “boos.”
Serrano, took the Mexico flag and ran through the audience after
the decision was announced. Girgrah delivered Serrano her
first loss as a pro boxer. Final scoring was 79-73
Serrano, and 77-75, and 78-74 Girgrah. The second bout of the evening was featured
Sumya
“The Island Girl” Anani, 141, and Fredia “The Cheetah” Gibbs,
140.
Even before the fight began, Anani stared across the ring at
Gibbs, and shuffling her feet as if she was ready to spring in
action at the ring of the bell. Gibbs was also hyped and when
the bell did begin the first round both boxers immediately began
throwing leather. There was some holding throughout the first
round, and they were non-stop until the end of that round. But
it was learned shortly there after that Gibbs may have
experienced a fractured hand and the fight was halted. Anani
won the fight by a TKO. The third night of the fight featured
Grant and
Martinez.
Their fight ended in a win for Grant by a TKO in the later
rounds. Then the ESPN2 cameras stopped rolling as the next
women’s match was to take place between
Nina Ahlin,
101.5, and
Vaia Zaganas, 104. It was a very entertaining fight and it was
unfortunate that it did not make television. WBAN did tape the
fight. Vaia Zaganas won the fight with a final scoring of
59-55, 59-55, and 58-56. The last fight of the night was another
women’s match, that could have easily been named the “fight of
the night.” Layla McCarter, 134, of Las Vegas, took on local
boxer from Fresno, Lisa Lewis, 133. It was the classic boxer
against puncher. McCarter was slick as she slipped punches by
Lewis who is also one tough fighter! The six-rounder ended in a
unanimous decision for McCarter.
February 28, 2003 - Selland Arena in
Fresno, California
The first
fight of the night saw Fresno’s Lisa Lewis score a fourth-round TKO over
Mikee Stafford in a lightweight battle. Lewis pressed relentlessly,
forcing her way inside of Stafford’s superior reach, while landing many
solid right hands. Stafford attempted to trade on the inside but had
limited success against Lewis’ smothering attack. After a punishing third
round referee Marty Denkin watched closely as the fourth round started.
When Stafford got into trouble again and couldn’t find her way out, Denkin
stepped in and waved off the contest at the :46 mark. Lisa Lewis improved
to 5-6, 2KO’s, while Stafford saw her mark fall to 4-6, 3KO’s. Report

Shakura Witherspoon
makes it to a even "30"----that is
thirty losses as a professional boxer.... Witherspoon fought a much less
experienced boxer, Lisa Lewis, who according to news sources
dominated the fight, when Shakura basically covered up and avoided Lewis
most of the fight. Lewis told the Fresno Bee, "I couldn't believe it,
I thought, why in the hell is she in the ring if all she is going to do is
cover up?' " Lewis won the fight with a unanimous decision bringing
her record to 4-6-0. Witherspoon dropped to 9-30-1.

Lisa Lewis, of Fresno, defeated Bambi Bertoncello with a
unanimous decision in a four-rounder. Lewis improved her record to
2-4, and Bambi's fell to 3-3-0. Jesus Sanchez covered this fight and
said that Lisa controlled the fight from the outset scoring repeatedly with right and
left hooks. Neither fighter went down but Lisa was the aggressor and landed the more telling blows. One judge scored the fight 39-37 for Lewis,
while the other two scored it correctly at 40-36 for Lewis.
In rounds three and four Bambi did what can be best described as a mule kick with her right leg that sure got the crowd's attention.
